Io Shirai Update On Her NXT Absence
Io Shirai has not been on NXT programming since Stand & Deliver which took place over WrestleMania weekend in April. There has been no talk about here whereabouts on screen.
In her last appearance, Shirai was in a Fatal 4-way for the NXT Women’s Title. She faced Mandy Rose, Kay Lee Ray, and Cora Jade. This came after Shirai & KLR won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and cashed in on the singles title. Rose retained the championship match.
In the latest report from Fightful Select, the most recent news on her status is as follows:
Shirai has been out of action for two months since NXT Stand & Deliver and hasn’t been seen on NXT TV. After numerous inquiries over that period, a WWE source confirmed that she’s been sidelined with an injury, but didn’t elaborate on the severity of it or what it was. They also confirmed that for the time being she’d not been factored into creative plans in any way.
Shirai is well liked among the NXT locker room and WWE in general. The WWE sources that we spoke to said that they were hopeful she’d be healed up “in the summer,” but that’s hardly a guarantee.
